As most of you know, this year marks the 57th Anniversary the Rochester Fire Department has participated in a Christmas celebration with the Holy Childhood. Every year firefighters participate in a fire truck parade, take the children up to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus to receive gifts, enjoy lunch with the kids and finally play an indoor floor hockey game to end the day. It’s a tradition that members of this department have proudly kept going for over half a century.
Unfortunately, for the first time in fifty-seven years we will only be able to participate in the outdoor fire truck parade due to COVID-19 restrictions. Initially there was not going to be any celebration, but the Holy Childhood staff and the RFBA would still like there to be some kind of safe interaction with the students and adults who attend and work there. The children eagerly look forward to this party each year and love nothing more than seeing the firefighters with Santa. Although it will be different this year, the least we can do is send them some holiday cheer during this unfamiliar time.
The procession to the main entrance will begin at 9:00am at the corner of Hollybrook Road and Groton Parkway on Friday, December 18, 2020. Plan to arrive by 8:45am so that we may start the procession on time. All members will line up outside with masks on. The firefighters will proceed around the circle in front of the main entrance and wave to the children on the sidewalk. I know that we are all busy during the holiday season but please make every effort to attend this event if you are interested.
